The two things that hold a shed clearance up
The first is asbestos. A lot of sheds and outbuildings put up before the 1990s have corrugated cement roof sheets, and a good proportion of those contain asbestos. It is not dangerous sitting there intact — it becomes dangerous when somebody snaps it getting it off. Removing it is licensed work, it is not work we are permitted to do, and anybody who offers to take it away in a tipper for cash is telling you something important about how they operate.
If your shed has that kind of roof, the sensible order is: we clear the contents, a licensed contractor deals with the sheeting, and the timber frame goes afterwards.
The second is chemicals. Sheds accumulate paint, creosote, weedkiller, white spirit and half a can of two-stroke. None of it can go in a general waste load, and all of it is accepted free from householders at the county recycling centres.
What does go
Timber, rotten decking and fence panels. Mowers, strimmers and hand tools. Pots, bags of hardened compost, cracked plastic furniture. Bicycles, scrap metal and the bits of three other bicycles. Bagged garden waste and the pile behind the shed that never made it to the tip.

These need a differently permitted carrier. Norfolk and Suffolk county household waste recycling centres accept most of them from householders free of charge, and your council's website lists the nearest one.
Frequently asked questions
Can you take the shed down as well as empty it?
Yes. A timber shed that has gone soft at the base is usually quicker to dismantle than to save, and the timber goes in the same load. Say so in your message so the quote covers both.
My shed roof might be asbestos — can you still help?
Not with the asbestos itself. Corrugated cement sheet on older sheds and garages frequently contains it, and moving or breaking it is a licensed activity we are not permitted to carry out. We can clear everything else and you will need a licensed asbestos contractor for the sheeting.
There are half-used tins of paint and weedkiller in there.
Very common, and those are the ones we cannot take. Paint, solvents and garden chemicals need a different permit. Norfolk and Suffolk household waste recycling centres take them from householders, and everything else in the shed can go with us.
Do you take the old mower and the tools?
Yes, including metal tools, mowers with the fuel and oil drained, and general garden equipment. Anything still holding petrol needs emptying first because fuel is on the refusal list.
